Design Solar Water Pump

The solar PV water pump system (commonly known as a solar pump) draws power from solar cells/modules to operate the motor pump set. Solar pumps use a specially designed, energy efficient motor pump set to deliver higher emissions that compensate for the high initial cost. A photovoltaic water pump system consists of a number of photovoltaic panels connected in series. A parallel combination to generate enough power to run the motor pump. The photovoltaic panels are mounted on a metal frame and the mounting frame can be rotated/tilted so that the panels face the sun all day long. There is no storage battery in this system as the generated power is consumed directly on site. SPV arrays convert the sun’s energy into electricity and are used to power motor pump units. The pump system can draw water from open wells/tube wells or streams/ponds or canals.

Solar Pump Type:

SPV Water Pump System can be one of the following types of motor pump sets.
4. Other types of motor pump sets approved by MNRE’s test center.

The
SPV module requires minimal maintenance and does not require batteries.

Application: The

SPV pump is suitable for remote areas where power grid is not available or reliable. It is also suitable as an alternative to diesel pumps. Some of the most popular applications are:

Costs and Subsidies:

The initial cost of a solar water pump ranges from Rs.2.10 lakhs to Rs.5.10 lakhs depending on the type and capacity of the pump.

MNRE subsidy is available at a rate of Rs.57 per Watt peak subject to a maximum of Rs.2.85000 of 5kwp/- per system for community applications such as drinking water over individuals. IREDA will offer loans to eligible users at a rate of 5% per annum on the remaining price subject to a repayment rate of up to 90% over 10 years (subject to change).

Number of subsidized systems installed to date: 285 Pumps

Limits:

Day time use only
